What the People Say

Harpriti
Volunteer
I was a student here and then was placed in a private concern. I left my job after 4 years and took up a teaching job at Deaf Way. I have been closely involved for many years with teaching and volunteering and counseling. I feel really fulfilled to be able to help Deaf young people realize their goals and fulfill their potential.

International Womens day 2010 Delhi

International Womens Day is an occasion and celebrated on 8 March all over the world. Women have been started at least ten decades of struggle for social equality, social justice, peace and development.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, The Deaf Way Foundation organized program where approximately 120 deaf women gathered at Indian Social Institute. Geeta Sharma, Women Secretary of National Association of the Deaf, Reena Jain, North Women Committee of NAD, Mamta Nagpal of North Women Committee of NAD, Vandana Varshney, North Women Committee of NAD graced the occasion as special chief guest. The programme began by lighting of the lamp by Ms Harpreeti Geeta, Reena, Mamta, Vandana

At the event women from all backgrounds shared how they felt they were not empowered, as they should be in a number of different areas. Women who were working could identify well with the video that was shown on sexual harassment in the workplace. Several shared how they had had to complain to their parents or other family members about harassment in buses or in the work place.

At the same time we address the dilemmas of present day women, and look at the way forward to achieve true empowerment of women. It is an undeniable fact that women today enjoy a lot of opportunities and independence compared to women of previous generations, where the women were able to share their own experiences and also increase their own understanding of the law and their own rights under law. Later this programe was followed by some games.

Here is obviously a great need to cater to the needs of deaf women in India and the issue must be mainstreamed to get the desired attention.

Harpreeti was the comparers of the programme. Guests & the members then after took refreshments.
