TECHSHARE and Shilpi are here in Delhi again. what an event! MY Lord
really an amazing organisational feat with workers and people from
across india. and exhibitors from across the world. DAISY was a new
device that they showcased and this time we even had the video relay
service we are talking about on line to showcase. Dr. Madan vasishta presented on current and future technologies available for the deaf. I got tot speak at a specail session on video relay interpreting. and what do you know that IBM core business team and Shanti Raghavan of Enable india came up with ideas and offers of support for the pilot project. Who knows what is next?? the possibility is limitless and the kind of scope interpreters and sign language have in India is really amazing. There are so many BPOs with computers and networks lying idle all day. A little creative marketing and we would be able to get more seats than we could man. The students from Deaf WAy and volunteers got a rare treat with Techshare having a series of lectures and presentations on hearing impairment. Last year there were rather slim pickings''. Shri Mukul WAsnik came to inaugurate the exhibition. What an experience he had. Technology was on display for blind deaf blind, OH and then for the first time the deaf as well. In his speech the minister made all the appropriate responses to the suggestions in his speech and then lo and behold to our amazement the Minster turned around and said " My govt is putting forward the propsal of the center for universal design and the center for the research and promotion of ISL." He remembered!!!!! what an amazing thing. He is a really concerned minister one is inclined to think. Now it only remains to be seen what he will do when faced with the budget and the press of other issues. I am very encouraged that he is on track with the 11th Plan and its recommendations. just hope that he will come up trumps. |
