Whew! the really tough part of the day was accepting the slower pace at
which everything went. I was having a hard time with that. I guess I
expected something else to come out of the national consultation and
that was evidently happening in a rather more subtle sort of way which
I am still trying to understand and accept. I guess there is a lot for
me to learn about how these things are done. For me
the fun part was meeting all the DRG friends and having them all on
board after the rather electric atmosphere of the past few months. Just
seeing everyone there and listening to the interventions was positive.
the lack of focus was the issue that bothered me but some things really
got done and consensus reached which is a positive. Talked
with Achal on the issue of possible manipulation and divisive tactics
by the people who would like to sabotage the whole DPO consult. There
is no divide and the sector is clearly for a new law, fresh
legislation. Also got to talk little bit to Syamala, Radhika, Vandana
and others. Fun! My focus is more on the post
document activity which is the activity that is going to actually
change things for the grass roots. Mahesh Chandrashekhar had a good
point today when he said the law and access is usually only applied, if
at all, in the cities and built up areas. There is a vast rural India
and villages where there is no concept at all. How will all this
percolate down there to the grass roots. So
much for that exercise. Its done and the papers look real good. I do
hope we can get one more smaller mtg in to hash out the advocacy
strategy and then dig in with the uphill task of getting all those
amendments through the law ministry. That is not an enviable task. We certainly have our work cut out for us. |
